Over mij/About me
Al jarenlang is fotografie een grote hobby van mij.
Het heeft me geleerd niet alleen te kijken maar iets ook echt te zien. Ik heb zo mijn favoriete plekken waar ik graag kom en
wat nooit verveelt.
Omdat het altijd weer anders is, het seizoen, de kleuren,
het licht. Een foto zal er nooit hetzelfde uit zien.
En ik leer nog steeds, elke keer opnieuw.
Door anders te kijken of door meer te begrijpen wat een camera doet. Mijn overtuiging is wel dat de techniek minder belangrijk is. Het kan je beperken in je fantasie.
Want tenslotte is het niet de camera die de foto maakt,
het zijn je eigen ogen.

Since years photography is a great passion.
It not only taught me to look but to actually see.
I've got my favourite places that I like to visit and which never bore me. Because each time it's different, the season, the colours, the light. A picture will never look the same.
And I am still learning, each time again.
By looking in a different way or to understand more how my camera works. Nevertheless I am convinced that the technique is less important.
It can limit your imagination. After all, it's not the camera that takes the picture, it are your own eyes.

In welk seizoen je er ook komt, het is een klein paradijsje.
Vroeg in het jaar, wanneer alles begint uit te lopen en het gras vol krokussen en narcissen staat.
Nog geen maanden later staat het veld vol klaprozen en korenbloemen. Thematuinen, waarvan een enkele met keurige borders is aangelegd, voor het overige deel mag het in Fort Hoofddijk wild en ongeremd groeien en bloeien.
Overal kleur, overal bloemen, van over de hele wereld.
En te midden van al dit moois brullende kikkers, zoemende bijen, klaterende beekjes, en in elke hoek een verscholen bankje. Met als klapper de tropische vlindertuin.
Elk jaargetijde meer dan de moeite waard en hoe vaak je er ook komt, je wordt elke keer weer verrast.
No matter the season, it's a small paradise.
Early in the year, when everything starts to open up and the grass is covered with crosuses and daffodils. And only a few months later the field is filled with poppies and cornflowers.
Theme gardens, only a few are arranged with neat borders,
for the main part everything is allowed to growand bloom luxuriant in Fortress Hoofddijk. Colours and flowers everywhere, from all over the world. And within all this beauty are screaming frogs, bumming bees, crackling creeks and
a hidden couch in every corner. And for the grand finale, there's the tropical butterfly garden. Each season is worth visiting and no matter how many times you pay a visit,
there are always new surprises, each time again.
Fort Hoofddijk, Budapestlaan 17 in Utrecht
Als fotolocatie is thuis misschien een vreemde eend in de bijt,
mijn thuis is immers geen openbare plek zoals alle andere.
Ik noem 'm hier toch, om je te prikkelenook jouw thuis eens met andere ogen te bekijken. Kijk eens in een la, in kastjes, naar alles om je heen waar je dagelijks langs loopt.
Ga op zoek naar kleur, naar bijzondere vormen, naar sfeer of iets ludieks. Het leuke is dat je op een andere manier naar de jouw vertrouwde spullen gaat kijken. Of dat je dat wat je ooit gekocht of gekregen hebt en waar je aan gehecht bent, opnieuw ontdekt. Loop eens door je tuin en zie de mogelijkheden. Gooi je verweerde bloempotten niet weg,
je kunt er mooie composities mee maken.
Ook je huisdier laat zich graag fotograferen en het leuke is dat dit, in tegenstelling tot mensen, geen geposeerde foto's zijn. Probeer eens in te zoomen op bijvoorbeeld de ogen,
het levert prachtige plaatjes op en een mooie herinnering voor later. Meer inspiratie nodig?

As a photo location home might be an outsider here, after all my home is not a public place like the others. I mention it here to stimulate you to try and look at your home with different eyes. Open a drawer, look in cupboards or at everything around you, at the things you pass each day. Search for colour, for special forms, for atmosphere or something funny. It's fun to look at your familiar things in a different way. Or to discover something you once bought or received, something you're attached to. Walk around in your garden and see the possibilities. Don't throw away beathen flowerpots or that wobbly birdhouse, you can use them for beautiful compositions. Your pet likes being photographed too and the great thing is, unlike people, those pictures aren't posed. Try to zoom in, at the eyes for instance, you'll get wonderful pictures and you'll have a beautiful memory forthe future. Do you need more inspiration?

Na de grijze winter is dit lentepark één groot feest.
Hier valt zo veel te zien en te fotograferen dat je eigenlijk meer dan 1 bezoek moet plannen. Laat er dan een paar weken tussen zitten, het kan zijn dat de lente nog niet in volle glorie is ingezet en dat de bollenvelden nog niet zo bloeien zoals je ze van de plaatjes kent. Geniet van he park en de prachtige thematuinen. En neem de tijd voor de paviljoens.
Elk paviljoen heeft meerdere bloemenshows, je komt er ogen te kort. Want het zijn stuk voor stuk kleine kunstwerkjes,
éen en al kleur, éen en al creativiteit. Waar je ook kijkt,
je wordt elke keer weer verrast en het wordt steeds weer opnieuw overtroffen. Neem zeker een zoom- en macrolens mee en als het even kan, plan het bezoek op een doordeweekse dagen buiten de voorjaars- en paasvakantie om. Voor liefhebbers van kleur en bloemen is de Keukenhof een absolute must!
After the grey winter this Spring park is one big party.
There is so much to see and to shoot that you should actually plan more then just one visit, with a few weeks in between. Because it's possible that Spring hasn't arrived yet in all its glory and that the bulb fields don't bloom yet in the way you've seen in the famous pictures. Enjoy the park and the wonderful theme gardens. And take your time to visit the pavilions. Each pavilion has several flowershows,
you definitely need an extra pair of eyes. Because each one of them are objects of art, so many colours, so much creativity. Wherever you look, you'll get a new surprise and each time again it's surpassed. Bring your zoom- and macro lens,
if you can plan your visit on a weekday and outside the season holidays. For those who love colour and flowers the Keukenhof is definitely a must!
Keukenhof, Stationsweg 166a in Lisse
Al bij de hoofdingang zie je het huis al liggen, aan het einde van een statige laan. Rechts een kleine kapel die zich in de mist of sneeuw zo mooi laat fotograferen. Links de duiventil,
een merkwaardig geval dat eruit ziet alsof het elk moment kan opstijgen. Een wandeling over het landgoed laat vele gezichten zien. Bos, een hertenkamp, een moestuin en een prachtig aangelegde vijver. Het ademt historie, de keizer heeft er zijn sporen nagelaten. Met huis Doorn zelf,
het mausoleum, de graven van zijn hondjes, zelfs zijn favoriete boomkap-plaats en de rozentuin zijn intact gebleven. Het is een plek om zo nu en dan nog eens terug te keren, om de veelzijdigheid die het te bieden heeft.
At the entrance you can already spot the house, at the end of a stately lane. On the right a chapel that is so photogenic within the mist or snow. On the left a dovecot, a peculiar creature that looks like it is ready for take off any moment.
A stroll along the estate shows many faces. A forest,
a deer-park, a vegetable garden and a beautiful pond.
You sense the history, for the empire has left his traces there. With house Doorn, the mausoleum, the graves of his dogs, even his favourite spot to cut trees and the rose garden is still intact. It is a place to return to every now and then, for the versatility that it offers.

Het wordt de groene schatkamer van Nederland genoemd,
en terecht. Een prachtige botanische bomentuin, 27 hectare,
met duizenden bomen en struiken uit alle dele van de wereld.
Met liefde aangelegd en onderhouden. Een park dat in elk seizoen een bezoek waard is. Al voor de lente losbarst zijn er al vroegbloeiers te vinden, ze brengen kleur in de grijze grauwe maanden. En wanneer de herfst zelfs nog niet in aantocht is, zijn er bomen die , omwille van hun afkomst,
al de eerste kleuren laten zien. En er is meer, regelmatig zijn er exposities van kunstenaars. Het leuke is dat de beelden op onverwachte plekken in het park staan en dat levert vaak bijzondere plaatjes op. Het Gimborn Arboretum is een unieke plek dat ik een warm hart toedraag.
It is called the green treausre chamber of Holland, and that's what it is. A beautiful botanic garden of trees, 27 hectare,
with thousands of trees and bushes from all over the world. Arranged and maintained with care and love.
A park that is worth visiting in every season.
Already before Spring begins, there are trees that start to bloom early, they bring colour in those grey dreary months.
And even when Autumn hasn't arrived yet, that are trees that, because of their origin, show their first colours.
And there's more, frequently there are expositions of artists.
The funny thing is that sculptures appear at unexpected places in the park, which lead to unusual pictures.
The Gimborn Arboretum is a unique spot that has a special place in my heart.

Wijk bij Duurstede, een stadje dat blijft verrassen hoe vaak je er ook komt. Het is heerlijk om met een camera te slenteren door de pittoreske historische binnenstad.
Prachtige monumentale panden in leuke smalle straatjes.
Mijn favoriet is de Muntstraat,
een Anton Pieck straatje waar de rozen aan weerskanten bloeien. Aan het einde van de Muntstraat is de ingang naar het kasteel. Eigenlijk meer een ruine waar alleen de torens van het kasteel zijn overgebleven. Nog steeds fotogeniek, vanwege de slotgracht, de ophaalbrug en de theekoepel.
Het park erom heen is mooi, op een romantische manier.
Met smalle lanen, oude lantaarns en verscholen bankjes. Vanuit het park kun je de dijk oplopen.
Voor panorama uitzichten over de Lek met voorbijtrekkende schepen en grazende paarden. En vanaf deze afstand is de trots van Wijk bij Duurstede, de Rijn en Lekmolen,
mooi te fotograferen. Wjk bij Duurstede is en blijft voor mij een grote favoriet, voor de typische oerhollandse plaatjes
Wijk bij Duurstede, a small city that keeps surprising ,
no matter how many times you visit it. It's lovely to bring your camera and to wander through the picturesque historical centre. Wonderful monumental houses in pretty narrow alleys.
My favourite one is the Muntstreet, an Anton Pieck street where the roses flower on both sides of the road.
At the end of the Muntstreet is the entrance to the castle. Actually more a ruin where only the towers of the castle have remained. Still photogenic, because of the moat,
the drawbridge and the teahouse. The park around it is beautiful, in a romantic way. With small lanes, old lanterns and hidden benches. From the park you can walk towards the dike. For panorama views at the river the Lek, with passing ships and grazing horses. And from this distance you can shoot the pride of Wijk bij Duurstede, the Rijn and Lekmill beautifully. Wijk bij Duurstede is and will always be a big favourite, for its typical truly dutch pictures.
Langs een doorgaande weg, waar het geluid verstomt zodra je het hek open doet. Wat je hoort en voelt is een serene rust.
Het gefladder en getjilp van vogels , konijntjes en eekhoorns die wegschieten. Talloze kronkelende paadjes tussen de oude hoge bomen door. De graven, sommige schots en scheef.
Roestige hekjes waar de klimop overheen woekert.
Afgebrokkelde stenen, vervaagde namen met in het voorjaar honderden lelietjes van dalen, krokussen, narcissen en hoe toepasselijk, de vergeet me nietjes. De oude begraafplaats is zeer fotogeniek, voor sfeerplaatjes en het maken van stillevens. Een unieke plek waar je met elke foto een ander verhaal kunt vertellen.
Along a busy road, where every sound fades away as soon as you open the gate. What you hear and feel is a serene silence.
The flapping and chirping of birds, rabbits and squirrels sneaking out. Many winding paths between the high old trees.
Graves, some of the randomly. Rusty gates overgrown with ivy. Crumbled stones, faded names and in Spring hundreds of lilly of the valleys, crocuses, daffodils and how appropiate,
the forget me nots. The old cemetery is very photogenic for atmospheric photos and still lifes. A unique place where every picture tells a different story.

Amersfoortseweg, Doorn
Al bij de ingang krijg je een voorproefje van wat het Spoorwegmusuem te bieden heeft. Op de muur staat geschreven 'Bestijg nooit de trein zonder uw valies met dromen'. En wegdromen, dat is precies wat het museum met je doet. Met leren koffers, stoomlocomotieven, prachtige rijtuigen, vintage reclameborden, koninklijke wachtkamers, een historisch seinhuis en oude stationsklokken.
Er is hier zoveel te zien en te fotograferen, in de stationshal, op de perronsen in de treinen. Ook leent het museum zich voor het maken van zwart-wit en sepia foto's, die de bijzondere sfeer nog sterker benadrukken.
Deze plek bezoeken is als het maken van een reis in de tijd,
de sfeer beleven van lang vervlogen tijden, van romantiek en pure nostalgie.
At the entrance you already get a good idea what the Railway Museum has to offer. On a wall is written 'Never board the train without your suitcase with dreams'.
And dream, that's exactly what this museum makes you do. With leather suitcases, beautiful carriages, vintage billboards, royal waiting rooms, a historical signal cabin and old station clocks. There's so much to see and to shoot, in the station hall, at the platforms and in the trains.
The museum is also suitable to make b&w and sepia pictures,
it enhances the atmosphere even more. To visit this place,
it's like making a timetravel, you'll experience the splendour of ages, the romance and the pure nostalgia.
